Memory Enhancing: Four Must Have Memory Supplements

Memory Enhancing

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to simply take a supplement to improve your memory and focus? Well, we’re not talking about any miracle cures, but there is solid evidence showing there are a number of supplements can really support and enhance memory function. Here we talk about our top 4, so read on to find out more…

Our four ‘must-have’ memory supplements are Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin B12, Vitamin E and Ginkgo Biloba. Here’s why…

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 oils are essential for protecting the brain and nervous system. They are vital for brain function and have a strong influence on your mood. Additionally, they can boost your immune system by reducing inflammation. A deficiency in Omega-3 can result in poor memory recall among other things. Promising research shows that, when taken with Vitamin B12, they might potentially slow down the cognitive decline in people with Alzheimer’s disease.

The food most abundant in naturally occurring Omega-3 oils is oily fish: sardines, mackerel and salmon. Veggie alternatives include flaxseed oil and hemp oil. Fish oils, Flax and Hemp oils are all available in easy to digest and absorb supplement form. Other great food sources of Omega-3 Oils are sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

Vitamin B12

Also known as Cobalamin this vitamin is essential for a healthy nervous system, cell division and the production of red blood cells and memory function. It is a constituent of the myelin sheath, a covering that surrounds and protects nerves and speeds up the electrical transmission of impulses along the length of the nerves. Some studies have shown that having enough B12 in your diet can improve memory.

It is not found in high quantities outside of animal sources, although some non-dairy milk-alternatives and many cereals are now B12 fortified. It is found in liver, beef, pork, white fish, eggs, yeast extract and milk.

As a supplement, Vitamin B12 comes in synthetic form (Cyanocobalamin), and natural form, (Methylcobalamin). Both are well absorbed, but many prefer to opt for the ‘natural version.

Vitamin E

Also known as Tocopherol, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It protects your body from the damaging effect of free radicals, effectively slowing down the ageing process. Recent studies have shown that high amounts of Vitamin E can help the memory function of those with mild Alzheimer’s disease (We strongly advise not to take anything other than the recommended daily dose or allowance).

Food sources of vitamin E are plentiful and as a result, vitamin E deficiency is relatively unusual. It is found in nuts and seeds, spinach, avocado, wheat germ oil and sunflower oil. However, it does usually form part of any good quality multivitamin and is also available as a standalone vitamin if you feel you might need a boost (especially due to a restricted diet).

Gingko Biloba

Gingko is derived from the leaves of one of the oldest species of tree on earth, over two hundred million years old! It is recommended to help prevent age-related memory loss and sharpen concentration and memory, particularly in older people. It is said to increase the blood flow to extremities such as the brain, fingers, toes and nose by regulating the tone and elasticity of blood vessels, from the largest of arteries to the smallest of capillaries.

It has also been found to act like aspirin by decreasing the ‘stickiness’ of blood, thereby lowering the risk of blood clots. As a herbal supplement, it is available as a capsule, liquid, powder, soft-gel, tablet or tincture.

So, if you’re looking to boost your concentration or enhance your memory function, look no further than these four wonders. Mastermind here you come!

As always, when choosing memory supplements, we recommend focusing on natural or bio-available sources that are high in quality and purity.

Stay well and happy, beautiful one. Lots of love,

Immunity
